Faculty who want to deepen their expertise in online and hybrid instruction may pursue the Advanced Online Teaching Certificate. This certificate is designed for instructors who have already completed the three Citadel Teaching Foundations trainings and want to further strengthen their skills in Canvas and digital pedagogy.
Certificate Requirements
To earn the Advanced Online Teaching Certificate, faculty must complete the following four Canvas Advanced trainings, in addition to the three Citadel Teaching Foundations courses:
Canvas Advanced: Assignments and Discussions
Explore strategies for creating effective, engaging assignments and discussions that align with learning outcomes. This training includes advanced features, grading strategies, and tips for fostering meaningful student interaction.
Canvas Advanced: Quizzes
Learn how to design and manage quizzes using a variety of question types, quiz settings, and security options. This training also covers using question banks and best practices for formative and summative assessment in Canvas.
Canvas Advanced: Studio
Discover how to use Canvas Studio to create, embed, and assess interactive video content. You’ll learn how to add quiz questions to videos, track student engagement, and use Studio to enhance instructor presence and student learning.
Canvas Advanced: Analytics
This module teaches you how to leverage Canvas course analytics to improve instruction and student outcomes. You’ll explore tools for monitoring participation, identifying at-risk students, and using data to inform instructional decisions.
Completion and Recognition
All courses are delivered asynchronously through Canvas and include step-by-step tutorials and practical application tasks. To complete each training, you must score 90% or higher on the final quiz.
Upon successful completion of all required trainings, participants will be awarded the Advanced Online Teaching Certificate, demonstrating their commitment to instructional excellence in digital learning environments.
