Deas Hall for Faculty and Staff
Priority Use: The primary purpose of Deas Hall is to provide instructional support for students in the Department of Health and Human Performance (HHP), along with their college intramural, club, and recreational athletic activities. Deas Hall is also critical to operations of the Office of the Commandant and ROTC units.
Reminders of Risk: The priority activities of Deas Hall increase risk of COVID-19 exposure to the casual user. Because activities in Deas Hall may involve heavy respiration and communal use of high-touch equipment in an indoor environment, faculty and staff are strongly urged to exercise outdoors when possible.
Fee: There is no fee for faculty, staff or their dependents to use Deas Hall.
Application: All faculty and staff, and their spouses, are annually required to read and agree to these policies and procedures. All must complete a Deas Hall membership application, read and sign the Deas Hall Release of Liability and Assumption of Risk form, and complete a Get Active Questionnaire.
Identification & Temperature Check: Faculty, staff, their spouses and their dependents are expected to have a Citadel ID when using Deas Hall. Be prepared to show it to a staff member when entering the building.
Stop and wait at the entrance for a staff member to check temperature. Any temperature 100.4℉ or greater is considered a fever and will prohibit entry.
Children: Dependents under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is responsible for the conduct, safety, and activities of the minor.
Guests: Faculty, staff, their spouses and their dependents may not bring guests into Deas Hall for purposes of using the exercise or recreational facilities.
Sports & Fitness Equipment: Deas Hall has a variety of equipment available for check-out. Present your Citadel ID card to the Equipment Room; your card will be returned when equipment is returned.
Bring your own:
- Spare facemask
- Personal hand sanitizer
- Water bottle
- Shower towel
- Sweat towel
- Swim goggles
- Weight belt and/or lift straps
Environmental Hygiene: Before and after use, wipe down equipment in the cardio and weight rooms, and mat room. Pick up trash in locker rooms and workout areas and use recycling bins for bottles and cans.
- Facemasks are required, in all areas and at all times except when engaged in moderate or vigorous exercise.
- Maintain at least six (6) feet of distance between yourself and others.
- Use hand sanitizer or wash hands before, during and after using equipment and spaces in Deas Hall.
Etiquette: Respect others when using Deas Hall and remember that classroom areas are quiet zones. Return dumbbells and weight plates to their racks after use. Ask others to do the same.
Locker Rooms and Lockers: Deas Hall has locker rooms designated for male and female faculty/staff. There is no fee to use a locker; however, lockers must be registered in the First Floor Equipment Room, and you must provide your own lock. You may keep your locker from August through April; there is an annual locker clean out in May.
Please be courteous to others and clean up after yourself. Do not store food, drinks, alcohol, drugs or weapons in lockers.
Deas Hall is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Towels: Deas Hall does not have a towel service.
Tobacco: The Citadel is a tobacco-free campus.
