Intramural Game Rules
Competition
The Home Run Derby is a Tier 4 event. The Company Regimental Champion is the batter who posts the highest score. The Home Run Derby is a one-day-only competition; no provision will be made for class conflict, Corps Squad practice, etc.
Roster
The roster limit is one batter and one pitcher per company, and they must be from the same company.
Rules
Start time is forfeit time: there is no grace period for players to arrive late.
All players who are not at bat/at pitch will retrieve balls.
Pitchers throw a softball underhand. Batters are not required to swing at a pitch.
A homerun for males is a ball that lands on or over the 225-foot boundary line. And for females, a homerun is one that lands on or over the 175-foot boundary.
An out is called when the batter swings and misses, or when a hit doesn’t clear the fence.
Round 1
Each batter hits until they’ve taken 20 swings, recorded ten outs, or been at bat for five minutes.
Each batter is allowed one 30-second timeout.
Batters tied at the end of Round 1 will have no more than three minutes to hit again, taking no more than 10 swings and recording no more than five outs. There are no timeouts during tiebreakers.
Round 2
The top four scorers from Round 1 advance to Round 2.
Each batter hits until they’ve taken 20 swings, recorded ten outs, or been at bat for five minutes. Each is allowed one 30-second timeout.
Round 2 ties will be broken in the same way as those in Round 1.
Round 3 | Final Round
The top two scorers from Round 2 advance to Round 3.
Each batter hits until they’ve taken 20 swings, recorded ten outs, or been at bat for five minutes. Each is allowed one 30-second timeout.
A tie in Round 3 will be broken in the same way as those in Rounds 1 and 2.
