Business Internships
The Tommy & Victoria Baker School of Business has developed a program in conjunction with area businesses and The Citadel Career Center to assist business students in gaining internships that will help them develop better business skills and get academic credit.
Internship Courses Available (3 Credits):
*Can be taken twice*
Accounting (ACCT460)
Economics (ECON460)
Finance (FINC460)
Business Management (MGMT 460)
Marketing (MKTG460)
Supply Chain Management (SCMT460)
Required for Registering for any Internship Course:
- Must be junior or senior academic standing
- Must have at least a 2.5 GPA
- Must have completed the prerequisite Professional Communications (COMM 216)
- Must be in good standing (no restrictions)
- Must be competitively ready to apply for an internship with documents, including a resume and cover letter (as needed).
- Must be able to commit 8-10 hours weekly at the internship, to ensure 120 total hours are met for the semester
- Internship must not interfere with academic coursework or leadership training, including Tuesday/Thursday training or Friday parade.
Registration Process for Students Seeking Business Internship For Academic Credit
- You find an internship (on your own, through faculty, mentors, family, Handshake or The Career Center).
- You meet the above outlined requirements prior to the start of the semester.
- You schedule a time to meet with Mr. Shawn Swartwood
- Mr. Swartwood sends your “The Citadel BSB Internship Agreement Form” to begin signing, along with your site supervisor, and department head.
- Mr. Swartwood informs you to enroll in the corresponding internship class that matches your major.
- Mr. Swartwood enters your special orders.
- You can now begin the internship (between the first and the last day of class of the semester).
NOTE –Special Circumstances outside of The School of Business can be referred to The Citadel Career Center (careercenter@citadel.edu) and can be reviewed in the Citadel White Book.
