The Krause School of Leadership and Ethics (KSLE) is The Citadel’s sixth academic school and its most significant academic expansion in recent history. Rooted in the institution’s core mission to develop principled leaders, KSLE formalizes decades of leadership education into dedicated academic home— bringing together the Department of Leadership Studies, the Krause Center for Leadership Development and Executive and Professional Education under one umbrella. The school was made possible by the generous support of Bill and Gay Krause, whose transformative gift funded renovation of the facility. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on October 16, 2025, and the school is on track to open on Leadership Day 2026.

Mission

The Krause School of Leadership and Ethics is dedicated to educating and developing principled leaders who serve others and make a positive impact nationally and globally. The school is a hub for leadership learning where academics, ethical reasoning and leadership experiences are integrated to build knowledge and develop character required to lead in our nation. Regardless of major or fields of study, cadets and students will emerge as better problem-solvers, ethical decision makers, strategists, innovators and team builders. We are preparing our graduates to solve challenging leadership problems and to execute difficult tasks and initiatives by offering technology-driven and agile curricula and leadership experiences.

Divisions

• Department of Leadership Studies — the academic unit offering leadership courses to the Corps of Cadets and leadership programs for graduate students.
• Executive and Professional Education — presenting leadership training for professionals across the region, state, and country.
• The Krause Center for Leadership Development — providing leadership development and community service-learning opportunities.
