The Citadel’s Student Success Center provides a wide range of academic support services. Included among these are the enhancement of writing, mathematical, and reading skills; the general improvement of academic performance in all subject areas; and an emphasis on retention throughout The Citadel’s academic community. Graduate and undergraduate students have access to the Center. In addition to individual and small group tutorials held in the Center, the staff conducts requested workshops for both graduate and undergraduate classes. No other organization keeps The Citadel’s cherished alumni informed and connected like the Alumni Association. Providing everything from publications like alumni news to hosting pre-game receptions at the Holliday Alumni Center, the Alumni Association serves its members in many ways. CGC students are encouraged to join the Alumni Association and can enjoy discounted lifetime membership options upon graduation. Please contact them directly for details.
The Citadel is a member of the NCAA with Division I-AA classification in football and Division I classification in all other sports. In addition, the college is a member of the Southern Conference, which is comprised of Appalachian State University, The Citadel, the College of Charleston, Davidson College, Elon University, Furman University, Georgia Southern University, UNC Greensboro, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Western Carolina University and Wofford College. CGC students can purchase tickets to athletic events online or by calling the Ticket Office at (843) 953-7181.
Located on the oceanfront of the Isle of Palms, the Robert R. McCormick Beach House is one of Charleston’s premiere event venues. The facility offers ample space for parties, wedding receptions, professional events, and cookouts. Reservation requests are accepted up to a year in advance, and bookings are made on a first-come, first-served basis. The beautiful two-story Beach House overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and is built on a tract of approximately five acres. Beach House amenities include a large general purpose ballroom, porches on the front and rear of the building, a large screened porch on the side of the facility, and a serving kitchen for catering preparation. The location also includes a covered picnic area that is ideal for oyster roasts, family reunions, and beach outings. Other outdoor amenities include shower facilities, storage lockers, outdoor cooking facilities, volleyball court, basketball court, and two pool tables. Please contact the Alumni Association for reservations. Students may also park to access the beach by leaving their student ID on the dashboard.
The joint bookstore and gift shop is located in a newly renovated space in Mark Clark Hall. Students now enjoy a larger inventory of new, used, rental, and e-books as well as increased convenience and cost savings.
The Boating Center is currently closed and under renovations. The Citadel Boating Center began as the Citadel Yacht Club and has been in existence since the 1920’s. The Boating Center will have a small fleet of power and sailboats that are available for use by Citadel Faculty, Staff, Cadets and Graduate Students who have passed the South Carolina Basic Boating Course and the Citadel Boating Safety Course. The Boating Center Staff teach both courses on campus. Other courses taught on campus include a waterskiing class and a sailing/canoeing/kayak class. The Boating Center will have a large clubhouse with kitchen facilities, restrooms and a large open outdoor deck with grills. Two floating docks provide access to the water.
As part of our ongoing effort to provide the safest environment possible for our students, faculty, and staff, The Citadel has implemented a new emergency notification system called BulldogAlert which will allows important information to be communicated to the entire campus population. In the event of an emergency, college officials will contact all or select constituents by email, text message and by phone with a recorded message. It is vital that you keep your contact information up-to-date so that you can be contacted in the event of a crisis. Information may be found online by logging in to Lesesne Gateway. Assistance to CGC students is available for career planning preparations and professional job searches, as well as assistance creating well-constructed resumes, cover letters, or personal statements. The Career Center is located on Huger Street, at the corner of Hagood Avenue, just outside the campus. They have drop-in hours Monday-Thursday 1:00-4:00pm or you can call to schedule an appointment. Summerall Chapel was erected during 1936-1937. Cruciform in design, the Chapel is a shrine of religion, of patriotism, and of remembrance. From the air the red clay tile roof forms a cross. It was designed in the spirit of 14th century Gothic. The furniture throughout is plain-sawed Appalachian Mountain white oak stained cathedral brown. The ceiling and timbering are pine. The lighting fixtures are handcrafted wrought iron throughout. Hanging from the walls are flags from the 50 states and the territories.
Since it is entirely nonsectarian, Summerall Chapel does not belong to any particular denomination. For a listing of services, holiday programs and more visit our website.
The Citadel Foundation, a 501(c)3 charitable organization, was established with the primary purpose of providing financial assistance and support exclusively for The Citadel. Founded in 1961 as The Citadel Development Foundation, the organization was initially tasked with raising money exclusively for educational purposes through the academic endowment fund.
Rotaract clubs are part of a global effort of young professionals to bring peace and international understanding to the world through community service and professional involvement. This effort starts at the community level but knows no limits in its outreach.
The objective of Rotaract is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
- The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
- High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each member’s occupation as an opportunity to service society;
- The application of the ideal of service in each member’s personal, business and community life;
- The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
The Counseling Center provides currently enrolled CGC students with short-term, professional, and confidential counseling services. Personal, educational, and career counseling services are available by appointment at no charge. Appointments may be made by calling the Counseling Center at 953-6799. The Counseling Center is located in Bond Hall Annex, 203 Richardson Avenue.
The Library is a very helpful asset on campus, providing resources, services, programs and staff to support the educational and research needs of affiliated faculty, staff and students. You can also read current newspapers and popular magazines, check out books and DVDs, meet your friends and colleagues for coffee and a bite to eat in Brewed Awakenings, learn more about the history of the college in the third-floor Museum, or just relax and reflect in our comfortable seating areas.
The Canteen is located at the far left entrance of Mark Clark Hall. Coffee, drinks, snacks, and full meals are available including Chick-fil-A. Regular hours of operation (fall/spring) are Monday-Friday 7:00 am-7:00 pm, Saturday 10:00 am-7:00 pm, and Sunday 1:00-7:00 pm. (Breakfast is served Monday-Friday 7:00 – 10:30 am). Daily menus and nutritionals for the Mess Hall and Bond Café can be found using the free Bite by Sodexo app. Use code Z3NF5, or use the geolocator. They are also found on the mobile-friendly website, citadel.sodexomyway.com.
Brewed Awakenings, located in the Daniel Island Library and proudly, is an espresso bar featuring gourmet salads, sandwiches, fresh-baked pastries and desserts. Use cash, credit, or debit card to enjoy a refreshing cappuccino, espresso, soft drink, or snack. Brewed Awakenings also features wireless internet access.
Deas Hall provides and promotes safe and healthful means for exercise, physical fitness, and recreational pursuits for students, faculty and staff. By presenting a Citadel ID card, students can also check out an assortment of available equipment. Lockers are available for male and female students for no charge.
The Citadel is a member of the South Carolina Consortium of Colleges for Student Health Insurance. This program offers affordable, student-health coverage for S.C. college students not covered under family or other insurance plans. Beginning in the fall of 2018, the plan is administered by Academic Health Plans through Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and covers Citadel students for all activities while enrolled. This includes international students and student athletes (intercollegiate sports, club sports, and intramural sports).
Students are covered both on and off campus and while on field trips. The Citadel endorses the State plan, but does not sell or administer the insurance policies. All of the available areas accepting GA roles are listed on The Citadel HR website. Each candidate that applies and meets requirements for a GA position will have their application distributed to the chosen areas of interest selected on the application. A GA can work no more than 20 hours per week and part-time appointments can work no more than 10 hours per week. Additionally, a GA must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and must maintain 6.0 credit hours per semester as well as 3.0 hours per summer session.

ITS provides students, faculty and staff with multiple computing resources, including kiosks in Mark Clark and Bond Hall for quick access, over a dozen computer labs located in classroom buildings and several auditoriums. All labs are equipped with personal computers and high-speed networked printers while others have additional equipment such as scanners for scanning text or photos.

The Office of International Studies offers a variety of services for international and American students. The office provides orientation programs, immigration advising and assistance, and assists with personal and academic concerns for international students.
The office further serves as a liaison with embassies, acts as an advocate for international students with campus offices, organizes off-campus cultural programs, and sponsors international activities. The office also provides a variety of study abroad opportunities for students who are interested in an overseas study experience. Students are encouraged to come to the office where they may view resource materials, receive guidance on available programs and receive assistance with study the abroad application process.

Lesesne Gateway is a web-based service available to all Citadel students. Students may use Lesesne Gateway to view grades, bills, academic transcripts, financial aid records, degree audit information, tax information, holds on your records, important dates, and other information.
There is a student lounge located on the first floor of Capers Hall and the fifth floor of Bond Hall. Snacks, hot tea, coffee, sandwiches, and soda are available in the lounge’s many vending machines. There are also two microwaves that are perfect for meals-on-the-go.
The MBA Association is a non-profit organization that provides the tools needed for its members, volunteers and supporters to network with peers and professionals from various industries around the world. The MBA Association offers: career advising and peer networking opportunities, VIP access to the MBA room for snacks and supplies, social events (i.e. Oyster Roast, Tailgates, and Banquets), discounts at local restaurants and bars, as well as voting rights for the MBA Professor of the Year and the Student of the Year awards.

Mentor Program – School of Education
The purpose of The Citadel’s School of Education Mentor Program is to support teacher candidates and counselor education students by providing counsel and assistance in the achievement of their career goals. Those who may participate include graduate teacher education majors, counselor education majors, and current or former educators with teaching, counseling, and/or educational administration experience. The Office of Multicultural Student Services provides programming and services for minority students, assists in maintaining an appreciation of cultural diversity on campus, and coordinates the College’s Access and Equity program. Assistance is available to students, faculty and staff who have concerns relating to race relations, campus diversity, or multicultural awareness.
Multimedia Services is a division of the Information Technology Services (ITS) department of The Citadel devoted to promoting the use of instructional technology in education. They provide instructional technology-based resources and support to help implement a learning system in which academic excellence at The Citadel can be achieved. By providing every student with technology related experiences, The Citadel maximizes the potential to enhance student learning and increase faculty effectiveness.
Faculty and students have access to the technology necessary to produce, manage, communicate and retrieve information in an efficient manner for educational achievement.
The Citadel Museum represents the history of The Military College of South Carolina from its founding in 1842 to the present. Arranged chronologically, the permanent exhibits feature the military, academic, athletic and social aspects of the College.
The past is brought to life with photographs from the Archives highlighting the exhibits. Memorabilia from special events, biographical sketches of the presidents of the college, as well as cadet uniforms and arms are displayed. Through a self-guided tour, the visitor experiences the essence of each era in The Citadel’s history.
The Citadel’s Ombudsperson is a neutral party who helps Citadel cadets, CGC students, parents of cadets and students, faculty, and staff resolve disputes and concerns-informally and confidentially. When possible, the ombudsperson will work to settle grievances and seek solutions to problems outside the college’s formal problem resolution systems.
The Citadel’s Ombudsmen are Dr. Elizabeth Connor (953-7469), LTC Robert Pickering (953-5096), and MAJ Shamus Gillen (953-4830).
The Citadel’s OneCard is the school’s multipurpose campus I.D. card which can be used for checking out books, gaining access to Deas Hall, and even getting student discount rates around town. Students who are eligible for financial aid may choose to participate in a program that allows them to purchase their textbooks from The Citadel’s bookstore using their One Card. This optional program is designed to assist those students who, for whatever reason, experience a delay in the allocation of their financial aid award, but need a way to purchase their textbooks until their refund is issued.
In order to accommodate graduate students who are unable to come to campus for face-to-face writing appointments, the Academic Support Center offers the Online Writing Lab (OWL). Using Eliminate software, tutors are able to interact with students much like in a face-to-face consultation. The lab has audio, text, and video capabilities as well as a whiteboard function to use as workspace or to display PowerPoint presentations. A student is able to upload his/her paper through application sharing so the tutor may view it and follow along with him/her as he/she reads it out loud. An OWL appointment follows the same policies and guidelines as a regular appointment. All sessions are recorded and can be replayed if necessary. At no time does a tutor have “editing access” to a student’s paper; tutors are only able to view the document and discuss aspects of it via the chat or audio features.

The Patricia Mcarver Public Speaking Lab provides students, faculty, and staff a place on The
Citadel campus to learn, practice, and perfect their presentation and public speaking
skills. Qualified instructors work with students on every aspect of developing and giving
an effective presentation. They help individuals develop and organize their message, then
coach them on their delivery. Instructors are also available to critique visual aids, whether PowerPoint slides, transparencies, handouts, posters, demonstrations or storytelling. Additionally, they can film anything from 90-second blurbs to 60-minute speeches with PowerPoints, Prezi, screencasts with voiceovers or just talk on camera.
Another outreach of the Lab is El Cid Toastdawgs, our campus chapter or Toastmasters, International. Meetings are open to CGC students and cadets who wish to improve their speaking abilities.
Located in Bond Hall 365, the Lab is open for drop-in help on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 2-5pm and other times by appointment. Appointments can be made by calling 953-5103 or sending an email to email@example.com.
The Citadel’s Public Safety officers are certified state officers and their number one concern is to keep our campus and students safe. Officers are on duty 24/7, 365 days a year. They are first responders to any emergencies on campus.
In addition to keeping us safe, they provide a number of additional services which include providing escorts to your car and assisting people who are locked out of their car, have a dead battery, or have a flat tire. Campus parking regulations can be found on their website.
Emergency call boxes are located in all parking lots on campus. Their phone numbers are 953-5114 or 811 from any Citadel phone.
The Office of the Registrar is located on the first floor of Bond Hall and is responsible for support of academic programs and policies including: academic records and registration, grade tracking, master course schedule, transfer credits, course substitutions, changing of academic major or pursuit of a double major, confirmation of eligibility for a ring, maintenance of a list of students who refuse to allow disclosure of directory information as per the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), official transcripts of scholastic records, replacement diplomas, and maintenance of a list of courses that may be completed through Advanced Placement (AP) exam scores or College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exam scores, also recognizes the International Baccalaureate Program and award college credit for scores of four (4) or higher.
Student Government Association
The CGC Student Government Association (SGA) was established to serve the ever-changing needs of the CGC student body and to advance the student body interests to The Citadel’s administration. The SGA acts as a liaison between the CGC students and the administration in order to effectively represent student welfare, opinions and concerns. The SGA also sponsors social events for all CGC students including tailgate parties at Citadel football games, happy hours, and other events throughout the year. Executives and school representatives are elected each spring by the student body.

The Tailor Shop is located on The Citadel campus between the Cadet Store and Dry Cleaning Services. Services are available to all faculty, staff, students, Alumni, and anyone who needs top notch tailoring or dry cleaning services. The shop offers alterations on military uniforms and civilian clothing as well as custom embroidery. Most services can be done within 5 business days.
The Treasurer’s office, along with the Office of Accounting, is part of the Financial Services department, which reports to the Vice President for Finance and Business Affairs. The Office of the Treasurer is responsible for collection of all monies due The Citadel; all correspondence concerning fees, payments, and status of accounts; clearance for participation in commencement exercises; maintenance of information regarding monthly installment plans and other ways to finance a student’s education; partial refunds for withdrawal during a semester, operation of The Citadel Depository; preparation of 1098-t tax documents.
The Citadel’s Office of Financial Aid and Veterans Affairs can answer questions concerning tuition assistance. In order to be eligible for financial aid, a student must have met all requirements and have been accepted for admission to CGC. The office is located on the first floor of Bond Hall. Payment plans through AMS are available in the Treasurer’s Office.
