About Facilities & Engineering
Facilities & Engineering is responsible for maintaining, operating, and improving the physical environment that supports The Citadel’s academic, military, residential, athletic, and administrative functions. Every day, our employees work behind the scenes to ensure that campus facilities, infrastructure, utilities, and grounds remain safe, functional, efficient, and ready to support the College’s mission.
Through a team of skilled professionals and dedicated support staff, Facilities & Engineering provides maintenance services, infrastructure management, construction oversight, campus planning support, event assistance, and long-term stewardship of the College’s physical assets.
The department is organized into four divisions: Buildings, Utilities, Grounds, and Construction Management. All aspects for each department and their activities fall under the direction of the Vice President for Facilities and Engineering. Together, these divisions deliver comprehensive facility services that support the needs of cadets, students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Buildings Division
The Buildings Division is responsible for maintaining the facilities that support learning, living, and working across campus. Through its maintenance zones and locksmith services, the division provides repair, maintenance, and operational support for academic buildings, administrative offices, barracks, residential facilities, and other campus structures.
The division works to preserve the integrity, functionality, and appearance of campus facilities while providing responsive service that supports the daily operations of The Citadel.
Utilities Division
The Utilities Division operates and maintains the critical infrastructure systems that keep the campus functioning safely and efficiently. Through the Boiler Plant, Electrical Shop, Machine Shop, and HVAC Shop, the division supports the essential systems that provide heating, cooling, power, and mechanical services throughout campus.
These teams play a vital role in ensuring reliable utility services while promoting energy efficiency, system reliability, and operational readiness.
Grounds Division
The Grounds Division is responsible for maintaining the outdoor environment of The Citadel and preserving the appearance of the campus. Through landscape maintenance, irrigation management, equipment support, and event preparation, the division ensures that campus grounds remain safe, attractive, and welcoming year-round.
The division also supports many of the College’s ceremonial events, athletic activities, and special campus functions, helping create an environment that reflects the pride and tradition of The Citadel.
Construction Management Division
The Construction Management Division oversees capital improvement projects, renovations, infrastructure upgrades, and major construction initiatives across campus. Working closely with campus stakeholders, architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors, the division manages projects from initial planning and design through construction and project completion.
By ensuring quality, fiscal responsibility, and adherence to institutional priorities, the division helps shape the future of The Citadel while preserving the character and functionality of its campus facilities.
