The Advanced Online Teaching Certificate is for instructors who want to deepen their skills in online and hybrid teaching. It is designed for instructors who have completed the three Citadel Teaching Foundations trainings and want to strengthen their skills in Canvas and digital pedagogy (using technology to support teaching and learning).
What You Will Complete
To earn the certificate, complete these eight trainings in Canvas:
- Canvas Fundamentals
- Best Practices for Assessment and Grading
- Best Practices in Online and Hybrid Teaching
- Canvas Advanced: Assignments and Discussions
- Canvas Advanced: Quizzes
- Canvas Advanced: Studio
- Canvas Advanced: Course Analytics
- Adapting Classes and Assignments for the AI Era
The first three are the Citadel Teaching Foundations trainings, so if you have completed those, they count toward the eight. Adapting Classes and Assignments for the AI Era also counts toward the Academic Integrity Certificate.
How It Works
All eight trainings are self-paced in Canvas and include step-by-step tutorials and hands-on practice tasks. Each training ends with a final quiz, and you must score 90% or higher to complete it. When you have passed all eight, you will receive the Advanced Online Teaching Certificate.

Once you are listed as an instructor of record in Banner, CEITL enrolls you in the trainings in Canvas.
