Honoring Service and Sacrifice
In September, two events brought the campus community together to reflect on service and sacrifice.
The Winfred B. Moore Jr. Art Gallery in Capers Hall opened a new exhibition, From Space to Sea: The Navy’s Role in Manned Space Flight, featuring drawings and paintings from the Navy Art Collection of the Naval History and Heritage Command that highlight the Navy’s contributions to early space exploration.
On Sept. 11, the First Responders Club and the Fine Arts Club sponsored a memorial wreath ceremony honoring the victims and heroes of 9/11. The ceremony began with the presentation of colors by The Citadel Color Guard and the national anthem performed by members of the Regimental Band. It included words of remembrance, the ringing of The Honor Bell, the reading of names and a moment of silence. The NYPD 10-13 Club of Charleston placed a wreath at The Citadel’s 9/11 Memorial.
