Franklin Named The Citadel’s First Astronaut Scholar
Senior Cadet Jasmine Franklin of Belton, South Carolina, has been named The Citadel’s first Astronaut Foundation Scholarship scholar. The award was made possible through the support of Ed and Wanda Deseta—the parents of Alex DeSeta, ’08—along with the generous support of several other donors.
Franklin is pursuing a degree in chemistry and modern languages with a minor in fine arts. She holds leadership positions in the 1842 Scholars Program, Fine Arts Club, Women’s Rugby Team and the Corps of Cadets. In the Department of Chemistry, she is working with Assistant Professor Dung Do, Ph.D., on research focused on the green synthesis of heterocyclic molecules with potential bioactive properties. Franklin is a member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society and has earned Dean’s List, Gold Stars, Commandant’s List and President’s List honors during her cadet career.
