The Student Learning Disabilities Association of The Citadel
The Student Learning Disabilities Association of The Citadel was established in 2014. The club is an extension of the Learning Disabilities of South Carolina and is the first-ever college club affiliated with the Learning Disabilities Association of America. The purpose of the club is to promote awareness of and support the education and general welfare of individuals with learning disabilities and their families, as well as educators who work with students with learning disabilities and similar disorders.
Club members typically meet on a monthly basis. Additionally, various club members have participated in mentoring and tutoring opportunities in the local school system. The club was thrust in the national spotlight during the Spring 2015 semester, when the Learning Disabilities Association of South Carolina received an award from the Learning Disabilities Association of America due to the formation of the club.
In February 2017, the club was presented with a national affiliate accolade award from the Learning Disabilities Association of America due to the establishment of mentor partnerships at two local schools.
