Leah Schonfeld is the Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at The Citadel and has directed the HR department since June 2013. Prior to becoming CHRO, Leah served as the department’s Deputy Director for Human Resources and has over 20 years in human resources administration. She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from the College of Charleston and completed her master’s in public administration at the University of South Carolina. She also holds a SPHR certification.
Before joining The Citadel, Leah worked as an HR consultant with the South Carolina Department of Administration. In 2025, she was recognized as the Human Resources Executive of the Year by the Southeastern Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Leah stays active in her field through the College and University Professional Association of Human Resources (CUPA-HR), where she serves on the National CUPA-HR Board of Directors. Leah is also a volunteer advisor to the South Carolina Federal Credit Union’s Board of Directors.
