Assistant Director: Ms. Shannon McKenzie, M.Ed.

Ms. Shannon McKEnzie is the Assistant Director of Services for Students with Disabilities in the Student Success Center (SSC). In this position, she coordinates accessibility to university programs and classes for students with documented disabilities. Ms. McKenzie also serves as a resource to administration, faculty, and staff on disability issues as well as other academic support needs.

Ms. McKenzie holds a M.Ed. in Student Affairs and College Counseling from The Citadel, and a Bachelor of Arts in Russian & East European Studies from the University of Kentucky. Before coming to The Citadel, she served as Assistant Director of the Center for Academic Performance & Persistance at The College of Charleston and Program Coordinator for the Center for Disability Services. 

Ms. McKenzie's professional affiliatons include the American Counseling Association (ACA), National Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD), and the South Carolina Association on Higher Education and Disability (SCAHEAD).

Assistant Director: Mr. Patrick Hendrix, Ph.D

Pat Hendrix is the Assistant Director of the SSC, managing the Writing Lab and Supplemental Instruction. He also supervises the Subject Area Tutoring (SAT) Program, which offers group and individual tutoring in multiple disciplines. Dr. Hendrix received his Ph.D in History from the University of Stellenbosch in Stellenbosch, South Africa and a Master in History from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Before becoming the Assistant Director of the Student Success Center, he worked for The Citadel as a program manager and as a subject area tutor for history and political science. He has also worked as an adjunct professor of history and a cultural resources consultant and has researched and written on history and archaeology for public and private clients throughout the United States and the Bahamas. His manuscripts include Murder and Mayhem in the Holy City, Down and Dirty: Archaeology of the South Carolina Lowcountry and The History of Fort Sumter: Building a Civil War Landmark.

Assistant Director: Ms. Kate Brown, M.A.

Kate Brown is the Assistant Director of the SSC. She is also responsible for coordinating and supervising the athletic academic services on campus.  She coordinates with Citadel athletic coaches to ensure that cadet-student-athletes have equal access to the SSC's academic support services.  She also administers the SSC's academic support program for academically at-risk student-athletes.  Before becoming the Assistant Director, she worked for The Citadel as an intern in the athletic academic services program and served as an academic advisor and learning strategies specialist.  She also served as a subject area tutor in Psychology, French, and Writing. 

Kate graduated from the College of Charleston in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.  She earned a Master in Clinical Counseling from The Citadel Graduate College in 2013.

Math Lab Coordinator: Mr. Matthew Thornley, M.A.

Matthew Thornley oversees the day to day operations of the Math Lab and has served as a math tutor since 2014. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics in 2000 and a Master's in Teaching Mathematics in 2009, both from the college of New Jersey. Matthew is also an adjunct professor in The Citadel's Department of Mathematics.

Office Manager: Ms. Paula Ross

Paula Ross is the Office Manager in the SSC. She has worked at the Citadel since 1998, in the Office of Access, Services, Instruction, and Support (OASIS) since July of 2000, and began working in The Center when the OASIS office and Writing and Learning Center merged in August of 2009. Paula was born and raised in the Charleston area.
