Assistant Director/Athletic Academic Services: Cassie Arroyo

Cassie Arroyo is the Assistant Director of the SSC, managing Athletic Academic Services. She coordinates with Citadel athletic coaches to ensure that cadet-student-athletes have equal access to the SSC's academic support services. She also administers the SSC's academic support program for academically at-risk student-athletes.

Assistant Director / Services for Students with Disabilities: Shannon McKenzie, M.Ed.

Ms. Shannon McKenzie is the Assistant Director for Services for Students with Disabilities in the Student Success Center (SSC). In this position, she coordinates accessibility to university programs and classes for students with documented disabilities. Ms. McKenzie also serves as a resource to administration, faculty, and staff on disability issues as well as other academic support needs.

Ms. McKenzie holds an M.Ed. in Student Affairs and College Counseling from The Citadel, and a Bachelor of Arts in Russian & East European Studies from the University of Kentucky. Before coming to The Citadel, she served as Assistant Director of the Center for Academic Performance & Persistance at The College of Charleston and Program Coordinator for the Center for Disability Services. 

Ms. McKenzie's professional affiliations include the American Counseling Association (ACA), National Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD), and the South Carolina Association on Higher Education and Disability (SCAHEAD).

Writing Lab Coordinator: Lindsey Spring, Ph.D.

Dr. Lindsey Spring joined the Student Success Center staff in 2019. In her role as Writing Lab Director, Dr. Spring organizes daily operations and collaborates with students, tutors, and campus partners to build services that lead to student success on all written assignments. Her leadership of the Writing Lab stems from her academic background in composition theory and pedagogy, feminist rhetorical practices, and literacy studies.  

Lindsey earned her Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from Georgia State University. Prior to her doctoral program, she received a M.Ed. in English Education from Georgia State University and a B.A. in English from Presbyterian College.  

In addition to her Writing Lab responsibilities, Dr. Spring teaches a range of general education courses, including first-year writing, business communications, and technical writing. 


Math Lab Coordinator: Matthew Thornley, M.A.

Matthew Thornley oversees the day-to-day operations of the Math Lab and has served as a math tutor since 2014. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics in 2000 and a Master's in Teaching Mathematics in 2009, both from the College of New Jersey. Matthew is also an adjunct professor in The Citadel's Department of Mathematics.

Office Manager: Paula Ross

Paula Ross is the Office Manager in the SSC. She has worked at the Citadel since 1998, in the Office of Access, Services, Instruction, and Support (OASIS) since July of 2000, and began working in The Center when the OASIS office and Writing and Learning Center merged in August of 2009. Paula was born and raised in the Charleston area.
