G. Dewey Yeatts was named The Citadel's vice president for facilities and engineering in March 2008. Yeatts has more than 29 years experience in architecture, engineering, construction and educational facilities management administration, predominantly at public institutions in Virginia and Kentucky. From July 1996 to February 2008 Yeatts served as chief facilities officer and associate vice president for facilities management for Murray State University in Murray, Ky., serving over 10,000 students within 3.9 million square feet of facilities. Before that assignment Yeatts served as director of facilities for a public education institution serving in excess of 10,000 students, as an administrator for a large commercial general contractor, and in municipal government working within the engineering department.

His present duties include responsibilities for all construction, construction management, facility maintenance and the physical plant, operations, grounds, transportation, campus police and security, safety, environmental matters, the boating center, and risk management at the military college. Yeatts is a member of the Energy Services Coalition and currently serves as a member of the national board of directors and secretary to the board of this organization. He is an active member of APPA: The Institute for Higher Education Facilities Officers and served one term on their national education committee. Yeatts is a published author and frequent contributor to College Planning and Management magazine and served two years as a member of their editorial advisory board. He is also a frequent speaker at various conferences and seminars on issues and best practices within educational facilities management.

Yeatts, a native of Danville, Va., is a graduate of Danville Community College and earned a bachelor of science and master of science in architectural engineering from Columbia Pacific University; a master of business administration from Wake Forest University; an advanced graduate studies degree and doctorate in educational administration from Virginia Tech; and a certificate in educational policy from the Oxford Round Table in Oxford, England. Yeatts has also completed an extensive course in construction law and project management from the University of Louisville.

Yeatts has been inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, was awarded a certificate of meritorious service by the Commonwealth of Kentucky House of Representatives, and awarded the honor of Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Yeatts was the first recipient of the T. Edward Temple Humanity Service Award presented by the City of Danville, Va.; a recipient of the Irvin and Blair Kerns Merit Award and a recipient of the commendable service and noteworthy achievement honor award while in Virginia.
