The Citadel's emphasis on leadership is integrated into the CGC experience through the required leadership seminar. This seminar is a condition of graduation for all degree seeking students. This non-credit bearing workshop gives students opportunity to receive initial leadership training in principled leadership and The Citadel core values. Additionally, upon completing this initial seminar, students may apply for additional leadership training, sponsored by the Global Ethics Institute. This experience is incorporated into the new student orientation for CGC students. All leadership training on campus is conducted by the Krause Center for Leadership and Ethics, which provides continuity and consistency in the content of the workshops across the campus as well as certifying that all students have been exposed to a discussion to Citadel values.
Darkness to Light
The Citadel is proud to announce that it is the first college in the country to enter into an agreement with the Darkness to Light Foundation for campus-wide training to the BOV, faculty, staff, students, and campus residents over the age of 18. In 2006, the School of Education was the first school or college division to make Stewards of Children a mandatory part of its curriculum. Today, the entire college is moving forward, becoming the first college to make a bold step of this kind to prevent child sex abuse.
The goal of Darkness to Light is to end child sexual abuse. Darkness to Light's "Stewards of Children" training program will help the college set up policies and programs to protect children and teach The Citadel community to recognize behaviors and learn how to respond.
The Citadel has made a commitment to offer Darkness to Light Stewards of Children training for all students at no cost. As part of The Citadel student body, we invite you to participate in this exciting leadership endeavor! Online training for graduate and evening undergraduate students is being offered to accommodate busy school and work schedules. Emails will be send to you to instruct you on how to take the training online at no cost.
