Ensuring the Future of Summerall Chapel
Summerall Chapel has held a special place in the life of the Corps of Cadets since its dedication in 1936 and first service in September of 1937. After General Summerall’s retirement as president of the Citadel in June of 1953, the name was officially changed to the General Pelot Summerall Chapel.
Our mission is to ensure that Summerall Chapel remains a vibrant part of our Citadel community for generations to come. To achieve this, several essential restoration projects are needed to repair, restore, and revitalize the chapel.

- Stained Glass Window Restoration*
- “Let My People Go” – Installation of ADA Accessible Bathrooms and Office Renovation
- Pew Restoration Project
- Pipe and Organ Antiphonal Ranks*
- “Let There Be Light” Upgrade and Restoration*

- Chapel / Bell Tower Roofs: Funds Raised $900,000; Project Completed Summer 2021
- Chapel Satellite Office: Funds Raised $15,000; Project Completed Fall 2023
- Columbarium Door and Plaques: Funds Raised $20,000; Project Completed Fall 2023
- Chapel Front Doors Restoration: Funds Raised $25,000; Project Completed Summer 2024
- Chapel ADA Access Entrance: Funds Raised $370,000; Project Completed Fall 2024
- Chapel Hospitality Area: Funds Raised $25,000; Project Completed Fall 2024
- Audio-Visual System Update: Funds Raised $809,000; Project Completed Fall 2024
- Chapel Rear Door Replacement: Funds Raised $32,500; Project Completed Fall 2026
