Advising is a partnership where students take the lead in shaping academic, career, and life goals, supported by their team of dedicated advisors. Guided by our mission of Advising Tomorrow’s Principled Leaders, our campus-wide advising network helps foster success both in and out of the classroom.

Primary/Major Advisor
Primary/Major Advisors are faculty or professional staff within each department who provide students with personalized guidance throughout their time at The Citadel. As an integral part of the student success network, they foster meaningful advisor-student relationships that support academic achievement, engagement, and long-term goal attainment. Through individualized advising, they help students navigate academic requirements, identify opportunities for growth, explore career aspirations, and connect with campus resources. Regular meetings, including planning sessions held each semester before registration, help students stay on track toward graduation, overcome challenges, and make informed decisions that support their academic, personal, and professional success.

Advising Facilitators
Advising Facilitators play a vital role in advancing student success by supporting both students and advisors throughout the academic advising process. They help advise incoming freshmen each summer, facilitating a successful transition to The Citadel, and assist students throughout the academic year in preparing for advising appointments and accessing academic resources. Advising Facilitators also coordinate school-level advising initiatives, provide advisor training, promote best practices, and share insights from professional development opportunities to enhance the quality and consistency of advising. Through these efforts, they help create a supportive advising experience that fosters student engagement, persistence, and academic achievement.

TAC Officers
Each battalion and company TAC Officer (Teach, Advise, Coach), a retired or reserve military officer, supports cadets in leadership, discipline, and daily cadet life. As mentors and advisors, TAC Officers play a critical role in student well-being, success, and retention by helping cadets navigate challenges, build resilience, and balance academic, military, and personal responsibilities. Through regular engagement and individualized support, they help students stay connected, overcome obstacles, and persist toward graduation. Their guidance complements academic advising and contributes to the development of Citadel cadets.

Battalion and Company Advisor
Each battalion and company is assigned a faculty or staff member who partners with cadet academic officers and NCOs to promote academic success, engagement, and personal development within the unit. Through mentoring, coaching, and collaboration, these advisors help cultivate a culture that values academic achievement, accountability, and peer support. By working closely with cadet leaders, they help identify students who may need additional assistance, connect cadets with campus resources, and foster a sense of belonging and community within the Corps of Cadets. Their efforts contribute to student success and overall well-being by ensuring cadets feel supported both academically and personally. Cadets seeking academic assistance should contact their academic officer or NCO. For questions about the company advising program contact Academic Affairs. Faculty, staff, and students with questions can reach out to Company Advisors.

Office of Student Affairs

Through personalized guidance, in-depth academic planning, and connections to campus resources, they empower students to make informed decisions and achieve their educational goals. Student Affairs advisors play an important role in promoting student well-being and persistence by providing proactive support and helping students overcome obstacles before they become barriers to success.
