Teaching with AI: Workshops and Lecture with Jose Bowen
As part of the AI Action Plan Speaker Series, the Provost’s Office and the School of Engineering co-hosted Jose Bowen, Ph.D., co-author of Teaching With AI: A Practical Guide to a New Era of Human Learning. Bowen led two workshops and a noon lecture for more than 40 faculty members across campus on January 21.
Bowen demonstrated strategies for teaching critical thinking and writing while augmenting instruction with AI. His demonstrations ranged from emotionally responsive chatbots to a virtual Agatha Christie avatar, developed in partnership with her estate and the BBC, that taught writing using her past journal entries. He also provided practical, hands-on activities showing faculty how to create custom bots to support student learning.
