Over the summer, Cadet Harrison Bishop served as a research assistant on the Risks, Impacts, and Strategies for Coastal Communities grant, a multi-institutional project involving the University of Rhode Island, the University of Delaware, the College of Charleston, the University of South Carolina, and the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium.
Bishop focused on how Edisto Island and Edisto Beach are coping with water-related risks. He conducted interviews with local stakeholders to learn more about those risks and their effects on daily life in the community. He shared his findings in August during a conference call with more than 10 other research interns representing partner institutions.
In addition, Bishop helped install a Surface Elevation Table station in the marsh to support The Citadel’s Near Center for Climate Studies.
