Future Engineers in Training
The School of Engineering hosted an AI Robotics Camp for 26 elementary and middle school students in North Charleston in late July. The camp was part of a National Science Foundation Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research grant in partnership with Clemson University, aimed at broadening participation in engineering and computing across South Carolina.
The leadership team included co-directors Nahid Vesali, Ph.D., and Brig. Gen. Linda J. Riedel; robotics technician and instructor Oguzhan Oruc, Ph.D.; and group instructors Heath Kaufman, Ph.D.; Shobhit Aggarwal, Ph.D.; Abigail Giordano and Elizabeth Quarles.
Students explored STEM concepts through a culturally responsive humanoid robotics curriculum. At the closing Robot Rally, they demonstrated their new skills to parents and guests.
The School of Engineering also welcomes two new faculty members this semester:
- Shailee Yagnik, Ph.D., joins the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
- Michaela Schuler, Ph.D., joins the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering.
