An immersive, hands-on workshop that helps faculty and professionals transform real-world experience into a high-quality teaching case, ready for peer-review submission. You work intensively with an experienced case writer/associate editor and leave with a finished skeleton case and the start of an Instructor’s Manual — not just ideas.

Two Days at a Glance:
Day 1 · 9:00 a.m.– 5:00 p.m. Day 2 · 9:00 a.m.– 4:00 p.m.
PRE-WORK: Two weeks prior: a short survey and introduction to teaching cases and pedagogy research prep (about 3 hours).
DAY 1: Identifying teachable moments · hooking the reader with a strong opener · building the narrative · learning objectives with Bloom’s Taxonomy · discussion questions · embedding theory and rigor.
DAY 2: Case presentations · peer review in triads · working sessions to finalize your case · publishing options · teach-your-case demo · action planning and takeaways.

Your Facilitator:
Dr. David Desplaces, Ph.D. is a recognized educator and leader in teaching case methodology, with nearly two decades of sustained service, scholarship, and governance within the global case-writing community. He earned his Level 2 Case Writing Certification from the CASE Association in 2017 and has held numerous senior leadership roles within The CASE Association, including Treasurer (2025–present), President (2008–2011), Program Chair (multiple terms), Certification Marketing Director (2016–2021), and Vice President for Membership and Fundraising Coordinator (2005–2007). He has been a CASE Fellow since 2018, an honor recognizing distinguished service and contribution to the advancement of case-based learning.
Dr. Desplaces has provided extensive editorial leadership in case scholarship, serving as Associate Editor (2023–2024) and Editorial Board Member of The CASE Journal. He has published eight teaching cases and additional peer-reviewed case studies in journals including The CASE Journal, the New England Journal for Entrepreneurship, and the Small Business Institute Journal. He also serves on the faculty of the Executive Doctorate in Business Administration (EDBA) at the College of Charleston, where he teaches doctoral students the teaching case method — case design, instructional alignment, and executive-level classroom facilitation.
