The Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes
The Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes receives hundreds of requests to perform annually. The combined band plays at events across South Carolina, performs annually in numerous New Orleans Mardi Gras parades and has performed for several United States Presidents. Approximately 100 members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets comprise the combined band.
Signature Tartan
At its inception the Pipe Band wore the red Royal Stewart tartan. In 1981, the band began wearing The Citadel’s own tartan, which has been duly registered in Edinburgh, Scotland. The color of the tartan incorporates the college’s colors of blue and white. The Gold woven into the signature fabric is reminiscent of the brass on the South Carolina Corps of Cadets uniforms. Red represents a cadet officer’s sash.

Accomplishments Over the Past 100 Years
The Citadel’s band has earned many distinctions on a local, regional, national and international level, including:
- Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Scotland (1991, 2010, 2015, 2020) – an invitation only, month-long nightly event of music and demonstrations by military organizations from more than 30 nations. The Citadel’s band remains the only U.S. military college band to ever be invited to the prestigious event which is the largest of its kind in the world.
- Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo, Canada (2013)
