The SHSS Welsh immersion experience
This fall, cadets from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences are participating in a study abroad program in Aberystwyth, Wales, where they are combining academic study, immersive experience and hands-on community service.
As part of the program, students traveled to Cardiff, the capital of Wales, where they visited the Welsh Parliament, Cardiff Castle and the Royal Welsh Museum, gaining insight into the country’s political institutions and its rich military and cultural history. At the Parliament, cadets attended a plenary session and learned more about the institutions, political parties and electoral changes coming to Wales in 2026.
In addition to their academic and cultural immersion, cadets are volunteering with Aber Food Surplus, a community-led organization that works to reduce food waste and promote food system resilience. Their practical service with Aber Food highlights the Study Abroad program’s broader mission: to prepare future leaders by fostering adaptability, cultural intelligence and civic responsibility in international contexts.
