Aspiring educators form new club
For students preparing for careers in teaching and related fields, the Zucker School of Education’s Aspiring Educators Club offers a new collaborative community for education majors and minors who value connection, professional growth, and service. The club is the campus chapter of the South Carolina Education Association and works closely with chapters at other local universities.
Led by Faculty Supervisor Mark Newton, Ph.D. and student president Garrison August, the club held its first meeting this fall, welcoming 16 cadets along with Mary Rita Watson, president of the College of Charleston’s chapter and the SCEA statewide membership engagement coordinator.
Although still in its early stages, the Aspiring Educators Club is already planning programming to support future teachers, including PRAXIS preparation sessions and service events benefiting local schools. The goal is to create opportunities for members to connect with peers, engage in professional development and strengthen their readiness for future classroom and leadership roles.
Students pursuing a major or minor in education, and who are looking for a supportive network of peers, are encouraged to get involved. The club welcomes anyone eager to grow, learn and contribute to a community dedicated to excellence in education.
