Research Interests
Dr. Lee explored how sport consumers perceive athletes’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives following their transgression. Dr. Lee found that pre-transgression CSR by athletes do not provide a buffering effect in mitigating negative consumer reactions. Moreover, Dr. Lee provides guidelines that sport marketers and brand managers could follow to improve the athlete endorses’ post-transgression strategy effectiveness. For instance, if an athlete endorser has become embroiled in a transgression and decides to use CSR initiative to manage the negative situation, it is beneficial to consider whether the transgression is related to previous or existing philanthropic initiatives. The manuscript was published in the International Journal of Sports Marketing and Sponsorship (Social Sciences Citation Index) in January 2025. Dr. Lee aims to expand his previous and current research and plans empirically examining how authentic CSR programs can be linked to the sustainable community development agenda to maximize their benefit to local communities.
