Bio
Stephanie Laughton is an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Citadel -The Military College of South Carolina. She acquired a Bachelor’s in Civil & Environmental Engineering with Honors from Duke University followed by Master’s and Doctoral degrees in the same field from Carnegie Mellon University.
Dr. Laughton’s teaching philosophy centers on grounding engineering technical knowledge in real-world scenarios and hands-on experiences. This carried through her teaching at both The Citadel and at Trident Technical College through her work as the School of Engineering’s Transfer Student Liaison. Her research focuses on engineering education, both in terms of classroom pedagogical techniques and how to increase persistence and retention of engineering students with varying backgrounds and barriers.
