Bio
Dr. William Trumbull came to The Citadel in 2013 from West Virginia University where he had been a faculty member since 1983. During his tenure at West Virginia University, he served as chairperson of the Department of Economics, director of the Division of Economics and Finance, and interim dean of the College of Business and Economics. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Miami and his PhD in economics from the University of North Carolina.
He came to The Citadel as the dean of the School of Business, serving a five-year term before going back to full-time teaching as Professor of Economics.
A strong proponent of international education, Dr. Trumbull has led study abroad programs to China, Cuba, and Europe. He specializes in socialist and post-socialist economies with a current focus on entrepreneurship in post-socialist countries.
His research has appeared in scholarly journals such as Review of Economics and Statistics, Economic Journal, Journal of Policy Analysis and Management (where he was awarded the Raymond Vernon Award for best paper of the year), Public Choice, Southern Economic Journal, Law and Society Review, and Post-Soviet Affairs.
He is the recipient of an honorary doctorate from the Donetsk National Technical University, Ukraine. During the fall of 2008, he taught a graduate course on comparative economic systems at Collegium Civitas in Warsaw, Poland, and during the fall of 2012, he served as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Pécs in Pécs, Hungary.
