Program Description
The mission of The Citadel’s Master of Arts in Sport Management program is to cultivate principled leaders for the global sport business industry. The program achieves its mission through the advanced curriculum and academic professionalism that provides students exemplary scientific and practical experiences.
The program’s core curriculum explores the principles and practice of sport management, the marketing, finance, and legal perspectives, the business of sport agents and the sustainability of sport in our global society.
This sport management program can help you prepare for a high-level career with sport teams and agencies, event and facility management, parks and recreation agencies, intercollegiate and scholastic sports, sport equipment manufacturing companies and sales.
A fifteen (15) credit hours Graduate Certificate in Sport Management is also offered at The Citadel.
Admission Requirements
1. Completion of the online graduate application along with the non-refundable application fee.
2. Submission of official transcripts reflecting the baccalaureate degree and any graduate coursework delivered directly from the accredited college or university attended.
3. Submit two letters of recommendation that address the student’s ability to undertake coursework at the graduate level.
4. All non-native English speakers must complete the TOEFL.
5. Submit a resume detailing previous academic and work experiences and a cover letter addressing academic and professional career goals.
Program Requirements
The program consists of thirty-three (33) credit hours. The students are required to complete a minimum of twenty-seven (27) credit hours derived from the seven required core courses. Students can choose between the thesis or the internships. For the remaining six (6) credit hours, students should choose two approved elective courses (please see the table with the Approved Elective courses). Within the broad scope of courses offered, each course is individually structured to accommodate the student’s needs and interests while assuring mastery of the discipline of sport management. Each student enrolled in this program is expected to integrate components of research, apply contemporary technological and computer expertise, and practice oral and written communication skills through each phase of the program.
