Bio
M. Steve Cavanaugh, Jr., P.E., PLS, brings over 40 years of progressive experience in civil engineering and land surveying and to The Citadel. After 31 years of founding and leading Cavanaugh & Associates, P.A., a multi-state firm, Steve successfully executed a succession plan, transitioning leadership to internal partners. Now entering a “twilight career” in the Charleston area, his true desire is to return to the foundational core of the profession: land surveying.
As an Adjunct Professor, Steve’s mission is to share his passion for the field, “plant the seed” for aspiring surveyors, and provide students with a path forward that balances rigorous technical standards with practical business acumen. He looks forward to sharing real-world anecdotes from his decades of business ownership to help students envision a highly rewarding career in the surveying and engineering industry.
