Accounting Minor
The Accounting Minor includes coursework in both foundational accounting principles and advanced topics. Students begin with Principles of Financial Accounting and Principles of Managerial Accounting, which introduce the preparation, analysis, and use of financial information. Students then select upper-division accounting courses to deepen their knowledge in areas such as financial reporting, auditing, taxation, accounting information systems, financial statement analysis, and advanced accounting topics.
Requirements vary depending on the student’s major:
- Business Majors (outside of Accounting): Students majoring in other programs within the School of Business already complete ACCT 201 Principles of Financial Accounting and ACCT 202 Principles of Managerial Accounting as part of their degree requirements. Therefore, these students need only complete four upper-division accounting courses from the approved list to earn the minor.
- Non-Business Majors: Students outside the School of Business must complete five accounting courses for the minor—ACCT 201, ACCT 202, and three upper-division accounting courses—as well as any necessary prerequisite coursework.
This flexible structure allows students to tailor the minor to complement their major while gaining practical skills in financial analysis, organizational decision-making, and the interpretation of financial information.
