Glenda P. La Rue joined The Citadel as Director of the STEM Center of Excellence in October 2012. Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, she received a B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech. She has over ten years of experience as a water resources engineer for government agencies (Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, Tennessee Valley Authority and the City of Columbus) and a private consulting company (Killam Associates [now Hatch Mott MacDonald]) and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio.
Prior to joining The Citadel, Ms. La Rue spent nine years at The Ohio State University as the Director of the Women in Engineering Program where she developed and administered programs to recruit and retain women engineering students and also outreach to K-12 students in the community, introducing them to exciting career opportunities in engineering and all STEM fields.
Now at The Citadel, Ms. La Rue is leading the STEM Center of Excellence to establish itself as a leader in the areas of STEM education, literacy and outreach to the Lowcountry region and beyond. Moving forward, the STEM Center will expand existing and forge new partnerships to support The Citadel’s efforts to enhance the STEM workforce by facilitating the continued development of community outreach programs, cadet programs in the STEM disciplines, and teacher preparation and related programs for educators on a local and national level.
