Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering

Welcome to Mechanical Engineering – The Citadel’s Newest Egineering Department!

We are very enthusiastic as we enter the third year of the Mechanical Engineering program.  We graduated our first students in May 2016.  The Mechanical Engineering program will be assessed in the ongoing ABET, www.abet.org, cycle of accreditation, self-study, and continuous improvement.  We have recently applied for accreditation of the Mechanical Engineering program and the initial ABET accreditation visit is scheduled for November 2016.  Once accrediation is awarded, it will be retroactive to the previous graduating class.  Additionally, we will continue to mature our student chapter of ASME and enter student competitions as interest grows during the 2016-2017 academic year.

The Mechanical Engineering Program of Study offers focused tracks in Power and Energy, Manufacturing, Aeronautical Systems, Materials (Composites), and Mechatronics.  We will be offering Mechanical Engineering courses to all cadet and day studetns as well as full-time evening students transferring from Trident Technical College in the summer of 2016 (2+2 programs).  We have been ordering new lab equipment tlo supplement our classroom instruction and provide some "hands-on" learning.  WE will continue to procure equipment as our enrollment grows.  Additionally, two new faculty members will join us this academic year.

I invite you to learn more about us through the rest of the department website to see in greater detail the exciting activities associated with Citadel Engineering. If you are interested in attending The Citadel as a cadet or entering our evening undergraduate programs, I invite you to contact me, explore the rest of the website, and/or visit the Admissions Department to gather more information.
