Boren Scholarship

Boren Scholarships support language study and study abroad in world regions critical to U.S. interests. Requires a commitment to work for the federal government in a related area. Funded by the National Security Education Program (NSEP). Open to U.S. citizens.

Boren Fellowship

Boren Fellowships support graduate-level study abroad in world regions critical to U.S. interests. Requires a commitment to work for the federal government in a related area. Funded by the National Security Education Program (NSEP). Open to U.S. citizens.

Rhodes Scholarship

Supports 2 or 3 years of graduate study at Oxford. Goal is to bring together outstanding students from many countries around the world and to prepare students for service to others. Highly competitive.

Gilman Scholarship (Spring)

Scholarships for undergraduate study abroad for students holding Pell Grants. Students who don't traditionally study abroad and less common destinations for study abroad are encouraged.

British Marshall Scholarship

Supports 2 years of study in any discipline at a university in the U.K., leading to the award of a British University degree. Highly competitive.

Mitchell Scholarship

12 Scholarships awarded annually to U.S. citizens. Supports 1 year of graduate study at a university in Ireland for future American leaders. Goal is to promote understanding of the island from which 44 million Americans claim descent.

Fulbright US Student Grants

Supports graduate study, research, or teaching in any of over 155 countries, with the goal of promoting cross-cultural interaction and mutual understanding. Open to U.S. citizens.

Goldwater Scholarship

Supports 1-2 years of undergraduate study for students who intend careers in mathematics, natural sciences, or engineering.

Carnegie Junior Fellowship

Participants in the Junior Fellows Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace fellows work as research assistants to the Endowment's senior associates. Positions are paid, full-time positions for one year, with a full benefits package.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship

Supports 1-4 years of study at Cambridge University. Goal is to create future leaders who will address global problems related to health, equity, technology, and learning. U.S. and non-U.S. citizens are eligible, though deadlines vary.

Truman Scholarship

Supports 1 or more years of graduate study in U.S. or abroad for students planning a career in public service; scholars apply and are accepted as juniors.

James Madison Fellowship

Supports 2 years of graduate study towards a master's degree concentrating on American history or government; for students who teach or plan to teach about the U.S. Constitution in secondary school.

Udall Scholarship

One-year undergraduate scholarship for students who intend careers related to the environment; and for Native American and Alaska Native students who intend careers in health care or tribal public policy.

Soros Fellowship

Students must qualify as new Americans to apply. 30 scholarships awarded nationally. Supports up to two years of graduate study in any professional field or scholarly discipline; applicants must be new Americans -- resident alien with green card, naturalized U.S. citizen, child of at least one naturalized citizen. Selection criteria emphasize creativity, originality, initiative, and sustained accomplishment.

Woodrow Wilson Fellowship

$30,000 stipend to support pursuit of master's in teaching; mentoring and training for secondary school teaching in STEM subjects. Requires a major or significant experience in a STEM subject.

Pickering Fellowship

Supports students who intend to join the US Dept. of State Foreign Service. Women, members of historically underrepresented groups, and students with financial need are encouraged to apply.
