William J. Davis is a professor in Civil & Environmental Engineering at The Citadel in Charleston, SC. He received his Ph.D. in civil engineering from Georgia Tech and is a registered professional engineer with over thirty years of experience in research, planning, development and design of transportation projects. His research focus is on infrastructure resilience, transportation planning and design, traffic engineering, highway safety, and maintenance. Additional research emphasis includes constructing spatial databases for better operation of transportation infrastructure, understanding long-term affects of urban development patterns, and advancing active living within the built environment for improved public health. He teaches courses in capstone engineering design, engineering management, transportation engineering, geographic information systems, and land surveying. He has served in numerous leadership positions in Transportation Research Board, American Society of Civil Engineers and Institute of Transportation Engineers.
