Christopher T. Dague, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor

In 2015, Dr. Dague earned his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in the fields of social studies education and educational psychology from North Carolina State University (Raleigh, North Carolina). During his time at N.C. State, Dr. Dague developed an appreciation and a desire to explore the powerful intersections relative to theoretical and substantive frameworks present in each field. His research interests have evolved into a desire to explore how intellectual spaces can be created using authentic educational practices that provide autonomy-support and empowerment opportunities for students in social studies courses. Moreover, through qualitative action-based methods, he will seek to further understand how authentic, inquiry-based approaches in the teaching and learning of social studies impact the emotion/affect and the innate psychological needs of students while also serving to meet the stated objectives and standards of social studies education.

Prior to coming to The Citadel and the Zucker Family School of Education in the Fall 2018, Dr. Dague was as a high school history teacher at Jack Britt High School (Fayetteville, North Carolina) where he taught AP European History and AP World History; he also served as the head baseball coach during his last eight years at Jack Britt. Additionally, since 2016, Dr. Dague has served as adjunct professor of social studies education and history at Campbell University (Buies Creek and Fort Bragg, North Carolina). In maintaining his adjunct status at Campbell University, he continues to work with students who actively serve in the United States Army along with students who have come back to higher education in an effort to complete their respective degrees.
