Bio
Susan L. Wright is a Professor of Accounting with more than twenty years of experience in higher education, teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in accounting, finance, analytics, and applied decision-making. Her teaching emphasizes clarity, rigor, and real-world application, helping students develop the analytical, ethical, and professional judgment skills required for success in today’s business environment.
Dr. Wright’s instructional approach integrates experiential learning, case-based analysis, and technology-enabled tools, including data analytics and AI-supported decision-making. She has played a key role in aligning accounting curricula with the evolving CPA exam and professional competency frameworks and contributed to the development and growth of interdisciplinary programs and certificates. Her courses are designed to build student confidence, engagement, and readiness for professional practice.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Wright is actively involved in advising, retention, and student success initiatives. She currently serves as Co-Chair of the Advising and Retention Council, where she has helped formalize institution-wide strategies to improve advising effectiveness, retention, and academic progression. She is committed to creating inclusive, supportive learning environments for cadets, military-connected students, adult learners, and working professionals.
Dr. Wright’s scholarship focuses on accounting education, data analytics, and the impact of emerging technologies on professional practice. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and regularly presents at academic conferences on topics related to accounting education, analytics, and instructional innovation.
Prior to joining The Citadel, Dr. Wright held faculty appointments at SUNY Oswego and Clarkson University and brings professional experience as a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Management Accountant. She is a recipient of multiple teaching excellence awards, including MBA Professor of the Year and the Col. Marion S. Lewis Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award.
