Program Overview

Students may select Nursing as their major during their freshman year. A strong foundation in the sciences prepares students for progression into upper-division nursing coursework.

Students may select nursing as their major during their freshman year. The successful completion of all pre-requisite science courses (Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2, Microbiology, and all associated laboratory courses) must occur prior to the start of the second semester of the sophomore year.

Required Pre-Requisite Courses

The successful completion of all prerequisite science courses must occur prior to the start of the second semester of the sophomore year. These include:

• Chemistry (with lab)
• Biology (with lab)
• Anatomy & Physiology I and II (with labs)
• Microbiology (with lab)
• Psychology

To progress into nursing courses, students must:

• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.7 (not rounded) at the end of the fall semester of the sophomore year
• Earn a minimum grade of C in all required science courses

For Study Abroad: Nursing students may participate in study abroad during the first semester of the sophomore year only. Students must: complete all prerequisite science courses prior to the start of the sophomore spring semester and maintain a GPA greater than 3.0 to participate in a fall semester study abroad program. Careful academic planning is required to ensure continued progression in the nursing curriculum.
