OSINT Conference 2025 Guest Speakers

J. Gordon Beattie, Jr.
VIAVI Solutions
Gordon is an “extreme” inventor and innovator with 167 US Patents to his credit. He is a recognized expert in network management systems with diverse experience from physical network environments to media distribution networks. Much of Gordon’s early IP centered around the essential precursors of Machine Learning in what was later called, “Big Data” and now “AI/ML.” Through the years his patents were byproducts of his work to predictively and proactively identify pending faults in all aspects of communications systems ranging from point-to-point microwave, VDSL, ultra-fast network switching and routing, cellular radio, packet scheduling, digital watermarking, embedded transmitter identification and narrow beamwidth antennas. His interests extend to system resilience and interoperability across personal, private, civil and military communications domains leveraging terrestrial, airborne and on-orbit platforms. After a decade working in the demanding telecommunications networks of the financial industry, Gordon’s pioneering work in Amateur Packet Radio caught the attention of AT\&T Bell Labs where he then embarked on a thirty-three year career as a consultant, Member of Technical Staff and as a Principal Technical Architect. In 2020, Gordon retired from AT\&T and moved from New Jersey to Florida where he lives and explores the diverse tropospheric propagation modes available there on the VHF-UHF bands through the microwaves as an active Extra Class Amateur Radio Operator W2TTT. He also is looking forward to resuming his activities with Earth-Moon-Earth (“Moonbounce”) and Amateur Radio satellite communications. The insights explored as personal research are routinely applied to his work in wireless systems. Gordon is the co-Chair of the O-RAN nGRG RS08 Research Platforms group and participates in the RS03 AI/ML and RS04 Security groups as well. Gordon also contributed to the work of IEEE P1897 including an appendix to assist with the identification of Power Line Gap Noise conditions on DSL/VDSL service infrastructure. Gordon is also a trained Incident Command System Communications Team Leader who volunteers with both the Suwannee County (FL) Sheriff’s Department and the Passaic County (NJ) Sheriff’s Department.
