COL Randall Dell, USAF (RET)

Col Randall Dell has served 35 years in the Executive Branch of the U.S. Government, with a combined 42 years in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve. He recently retired as a Colonel from the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) for Policy within Homeland Defense and Global Security at the Pentagon. He was on duty inside the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, inside the National Military Command Center (NMCC).
Dell held key leadership positions in four (4) Executive Branches of the United States Government. These positions included the United States Marshals Service Headquarters, as Assistant Chief of the Judicial Security Division, the Director of the Office of Emergency Management at the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Deputy Director of the Veterans Health Administration Office of Emergency Management.
Dell began his career in the United States Air Force in law enforcement and force protection. After receiving his commission, he flew for over 25 years, logging 5000 hours as a C-130 aircrew member.
Dell completed several combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also held roles as a Group Commander, intelligence officer, and combat war planner on the Joint Staff, where he contributed to the National Security Strategy. Additionally, he was a Desert Storm veteran in the AOR.
Teaching at The Citadel since 2022, he has taught INTL 465: Special Events Intelligence, INTL 402: National Instruments of Power, and INTL 210: Homeland Security. Prior to coming to The Citadel, he also taught multiple college-level in-person Criminal Justice Investigations courses at the University of Charleston. A native of West Virginia, he brings a strong record in national and international security and intelligence to his current role at The Citadel.
