Aberystwyth, Wales
About the Program
Choose Aberystwyth University and you’ll be studying in a location like no other. Aberystwyth University students are among the most satisfied in Wales and in the UK as a whole, according to the annual National Student Survey (NSS) published Friday 27 July 2018.
The latest NSS results show that overall satisfaction amongst students at Aberystwyth University stands at 90% – seven percentage points higher than the average UK figure of 83%.
Aberystwyth is rated the top university in Wales for overall student satisfaction.
Students participating in the Global Scholars Program will receive transfer credit from their host university. Therefore, their GPA will not be affected by courses taken during students’ semesters abroad on this program. As long as students receive a C or better in their classes abroad, transfer credit will be applied to the students’ transcript. The Citadel Office of Study Abroad will take care of pre-approving all course offerings from Aberystwyth for the Global Scholars Program. A complete list of available courses will be attached to this application page once all courses have been approved by Citadel faculty members.

Athens, Greece
About the Program
Located in Athens, and originally founded in 1875 in Smyrna, Deree – The American College of Greece is the oldest American-accredited college in Europe and the largest private college in Greece. ACG is an independent, not for profit, nonsectarian, co-educational academic institution.
ACG is the largest American college or university in Europe and a truly international learning community. Students in virtually any academic major can find courses to apply towards graduation in their home institution. All classes at ACG are taught in English.

Hamburg, Germany (military academy)
Eligibility Requirements

About the Program
Helmut-Schmidt University of the Armed Forces in Hamburg, Germany partners with The Citadel to allow students to experience a semester of education at an international military academy. Each year The Citadel welcomes German students to our campus as our students participate in a study abroad program at their university overseas.
To participate in this Exchange Program students must be nominated by the Department of Modern Languages based on their ability to speak the German language.
Helmut-Schmidt is on a trimester system so students will have to get course approvals based on the number of terms they will be enrolled at Helmut-Schmidt. cadets can receive 12-15 hours for attending two trimesters in the spring.

If you do have a passport, please make sure that it does not expire until AT LEAST 3-6 months after your program’s completion date.
Please note that even if you meet the requirements to participate in this program, it is up to the instructor to choose which students join the spring course and the program.

London, UK
The Center for International and Special Programs oversees applications for two programs in London:
- The UK Parliament Program is an invite-only academic and internship program with eligibility determined by the Political Science Department. This is a semester program (90 days to be exact) in which two cadets/students (MECEPs eligible) will intern in the UK Parliament and a London think tank. The program will be based on the Global Scholars model implemented by the college for various study abroad programs here at the Citadel. As such, you will be expected to pay tuition and fees just as you would if attending classes here on campus. For this program, your tuition and fees cover the cost of airfare, a flat close to Parliament shared with your fellow intern, a $1000 monthly stipend for food and basic necessities, Oyster card (public transit) funds, and 12 credit hours of coursework. These hours will include 2 PSCI internship classes (6 hours), one PSCI 498: Special Topics course (3 hours), and one online LDRS course (3 hours).
- Global Scholars London – Richmond is open to students in many majors. Richmond American University welcomes students from around the world to study abroad and experience life in London for a semester. All programmes offer US, UK, or ECTS credits, which are easily transferable to The Citadel. As the first UK university to receive accreditation in both the UK and the US, Richmond is committed to celebrating internationalism and diversity. In recognition of this commitment, the university received the Advancing International Education Award at the Independent Higher Education Awards in 2022.
Pécs, Hungary
About the Program
The University of Pécs has a student population of 22,000 students, with almost 5,000 international students, 1,700 lecturers and researchers, with its 10 faculties is one of the largest higher education institutions in Hungary and the centre of knowledge within the Transdanubian region. Its roots date back to 1367.
This program is part of The Citadel Global Scholars Program – an initiative to make semesters abroad feasible for all cadets. Students pay Citadel tuition and fees and are provided round-trip airfare, up to 18 credit hours of courses, lodging, textbooks, and excursions abroad.

St Cyr, France (military academy)

About the Program
Since 2010, Saint-Cyr’s department of war studies proposes a whole semester of training in English for its national and international cadets. This training is entirely devoted to the study of war under different angles of approach. The cadets are divided into little classes of 14 individuals and tutored by a captain.
Intellectual training is based on three fundamental pillars: the study of current conflicts in which western armies are involved, the study of the political cultural and anthropological background of war, and a personal work on once character, and potential relation to the group or the crowd.
One half of the academic staff is French, and the other half British or American. The academies involved include the Sorbonne, Oxford, Cambridge, the United States Naval Academy and Saint John’s College (Annapolis).
Washington, DC
About the Program
The Citadel in D.C. program is a semester-long domestic program in Washington, D.C. with an internship component intended for Political Science and Intelligence and Security Studies majors. Students live on Capitol Hill, intern at various locations around the city, and take an interdisciplinary academic program. Students will take a full course load of INTL courses that will allow for PSCI course substitutions as necessary to fulfill the student’s course requirements.
The courses in this program are taught in-person by a Citadel professor and allow students the opportunity to experience D.C. as their classroom. Students may earn up to 15 academic credits during the semester; 9 credits of academic courses; 3 credit hours towards an internship; option to take 3 additional hours of coursework through a remote online course offered at the Citadel.
This domestic program prepares students for leadership in today’s interconnected world. This opportunity will allow students to:
