Before engaging with Generative AI tools, it is essential to understand the established policies and best practices for their responsible use at The Citadel. Here are key points to consider:
The Citadel’s Supported GenAI Tool: Microsoft Copilot is the only officially supported Generative AI tool available to all faculty, staff, and students at The Citadel. We strongly recommend using this tool. When using Microsoft Copilot, please ensure you are logged in with your Citadel credentials, as this provides enhanced data privacy features not available in public versions.
Understanding Risks with Non-Citadel-Approved Tools: Using non-Citadel-approved tools may involve privacy risks, such as the tool using data shared with it for future model training. Therefore, if you choose to use a non-Citadel-supported tool, you assume the associated risks.
Protecting Intellectual Property: Do not upload any data to a Generative AI system that may be considered another’s intellectual property, unless you have explicit permission or rights to do so, or if the content you are sharing with the AI system is your own intellectual property.
Keeping a Record of AI Interactions for Classes: Given that the ethical guidelines for acceptable GenAI use vary across different contexts, including individual classes, we recommend keeping a record of your interactions with any AI tool. Many tools, including Microsoft Copilot, maintain a history of your chats, which can be referenced and shared with your instructors as needed.
