Dr. Sara Fernandez Medina

Dr. Sara Fernandez Medina is a Professor of Spanish and Chair of the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. She also holds key roles as the Director of the Spain Study Abroad program, the Modern Language placement coordinator, and an adviser for Hispanic internships and Spanish. She is from Madrid and Toledo, Spain.
Dr. Fernandez Medina earned a bachelor’s degree in history focusing on Archaeology and began a second degree in English Philology at Alcala University. She then pursued her Master’s and PhD in Spanish Literature and Applied Linguistics at Texas Tech University. Throughout her academic journey, she received multiple scholarships to study at other universities, including St. Andrews in Scotland and UC Santa Barbara.
Her research explores the Spanish Civil War, gender violence in Spain, new trends in European film and media, and innovative language teaching methods. Before becoming a professor, she worked as an archaeologist for various universities and companies in Spain until she decided to change her career.
