Winfred B. Moore, Jr. (\u201cBo\u201d) served as the Dean of The Citadel\u2019s School of Humanities & Social Sciences from 2008 to 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He earned his bachelor\u2019s degree from Furman University and his master\u2019s and doctoral degrees in American history from Duke University. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After serving on active duty for training as an officer in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, he joined the faculty of The Citadel, rose through its ranks from Assistant to Full Professor, and served as the Chairperson of its Department of History before being appointed Dean in 2008. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Professor Moore is the author of several articles on the history of the modern American South and the editor of six published books of essays, including, most recently, Toward the Meeting of the Waters: Currents in the Civil Rights Movement of South Carolina During the Twentieth Century <\/em>which was selected for a Choice notable book award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Professor Moore also organized several academic conferences on the History of the American South, served on the program committee of the Southern Historical Association, and been a member of the Boards of Directors of the South Carolina Archives and History Commission and of the Fort Sumter-Fort Moultrie Historical Trust. In the latter capacity, he directed the historical programming for Charleston\u2019s four-year commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Winfred B.
