Disability Accommodation Portal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Services for Students with Disabilities at The Citadel uses Accessible Information Management (AIM), an online accommodation management portal that helps students request and coordinate their accommodations with instructors. This web application replaces the old system of students emailing PDF copies of their accommodation letters to their faculty. This system also allows instructors to review accommodation requests in a central location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The American Psychological Association has developed a Disability Resources Toolbox (DART)<\/strong> that provides faculty with resources to better support students with disabilities.<\/span> Below are pertinent sections of the toolkit for faculty reference:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Faculty Room<\/a>: The Faculty Room is a space for faculty and administrators at postsecondary institutions to learn about creating on-site and online courses that maximize learning for all students, including those with disabilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faculty Rights and Responsibilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Faculty members have the right to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Request verification of eligibility for accommodations with the Student Success Center<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Request clarification on the reasonableness of an accommodation<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Consult with the Student Success Center about students as appropriate<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Expect students with disabilities to meet the same academic standards as their peers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Faculty members do not<\/strong> have the right to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • Access the student’s diagnostic information<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Refuse to provide authorized accommodations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Faculty members have the responsibility to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \n
      • Provide requested accommodations in a reasonable and timely manner<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Meet with students confidentially to discuss how their accommodations will be provided<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Provide classroom materials in an alternative format when documentation supports the request<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Refer to the Student Success Center students whom they feel may have a disability (if a written request for accommodation does not exist)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Place a statement in the syllabus telling students to inform the professor of any special needs as soon as possible to ensure that those needs are met in a timely manner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
