Why major in chemistry?
Chemistry is referred to as the “central science” because it connects the physical, life, and applied sciences. Our majors use math, theory, experimentation, critical thinking and analytical skills to study matter. A degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry will prepare you for a career in a wide range of fields, both traditional and non-traditional.
- The Citadel Chemistry Department offers a degree track approved by the American Chemical Society. This rigorous option is highly valued by both employers and graduate schools.
- General Chemistry courses are taught separately from the non-majors track, which allows for smaller class sizes and more in-depth problem solving and discussion.
- All seniors have the opportunity to participate in a yearlong independent research project with a faculty mentor. Many students choose to get involved with research earlier and can do so either on campus or through numerous external programs.
