If you DO NOT see a school on the map, that is all the more reason to "adopt" it. The map will be updated with schools you visit (see form below)
If you see a school near you listed, check the information provided to see when the last person "adopted" it and when their last visit was.
Do further research: Traditional elements that are helpful to CARs in this process include geography, history of cadet engagement, reputation, JROTC, etc...
Once CARs identify their target high school(s) for adoption they must complete the HS Visit Form.
Upon form submission, CARs will be mailed necessary Adopt-A-High-School packet(s) via the USPS. Packets will include current brochures and printed information for delivery to the Guidance Office(s).
It is highly encouraged for CARs to send a written note to the Guidance Counseleing point of contact to actively build the relationship with this key figure. The more high school guidance counselors understand about The Citadel and it's graduates, the better they can position students for CAR visits!
Introduce yourself to the school guidance counselor who takes your call as both a Citadel Alumni Recruiter and local professional.
Let them know about our passionate trained alumni recruiters, and your desire to share information with students who have keen leadership potential.
If student meeting opportunities are not available, make an appointment to drop of current materials and introduce yourself personally (following current health guidelines).
A key aspect of your role is educating guidance offices as the nature of what The Citadel produces - Principled Leaders! Many guidance counselors will not know our story, and your communications and visit facilitates their awareness of the great breadth of outcomes The Citadel produces.
Be prepared to take notes on notepad found in Adopt-A-High-School packet. Students and educators might have questions you cannot answer - this is normal. Your notes can be relayed to Shamus Gillen, '96 or Josh Simon, '08 in Citadel Admissions to quickly get those questions answered.
