William G. Johnson, Ph.D., ABPP

William G. Johnson, Ph.D. ABPP is a clinical psychologist and Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychology at The Citadel, following his retirement in May 2017. He is a Fellow in the American Psychological Association and the Society for Behavioral Medicine, and a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology, American Board of Professional Psychology. His teaching, research and clinical interests focus primarily on applying psychological principles to the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of health problems. Dr. Johnson has published over 70 articles, books and book chapters on obesity, eating disorders, and related topics. He has also served as an expert witness in Federal, State, and County courts in both criminal and civil cases, and has published several research articles on the assessment of competency to stand trial and criminal responsibility. Dr. Johnson has presented over 100 papers at national and international conferences, given numerous workshops, and presented invited addresses in the US and abroad. He was a varsity lacrosse player at the University of Maryland, a lacrosse coach at the University of Rochester and The Citadel, and a nationally ranked age-group triathlete for over 10 years.
