The Citadel names finalists for provost

The Citadel has named three finalists for the position of provost and dean of the college.

The finalists are:

  • Terrence Reynolds, chairman of the Department of Theology at Georgetown University.
  • Samuel M. Hines Jr., dean of the School of Languages, Cultures and World Affairs and professor of political science and international studies at the College of Charleston.
  • Thomas E. Boyt, dean of the College of Business Administration at Valparaiso University.

Forty-eight people applied for the position. Ten semi-finalists were narrowed down to three finalists who received invitations to visit the campus.

Donald A. Steven, former provost and dean of the college, left The Citadel last year to become provost and vice president for academic affairs at Rider University in Lawrenceville and Princeton, N.J. Brig. Gen. Harry Carter (USAFR retired), professor of business administration, is serving as interim provost.

The finalists will visit campus this month for interviews. Citadel President Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa and the Board of Visitors hope to have a new provost by the start of 2007-2008 academic year.
