For more information on theses exams, you may visit or call the Boating Center at 953-6849.

  • Rental fees for power boats are $20 a day for cadets and summer school students and $40 a day for faculty and staff.

  • Weekend reservations can be made up to two (2) weeks in advance. Deposit required.

  • Due to the continued silting of our channel, boats can only leave from or return to our channel 1.5 hours before the high tide or 1.5 hours after the high tide. Local tide information can be found at http://www.scdhec.gov/environment/ocrm/pubs/tide_tables.htm. Please plan your trip around the high tides.

Class of 1981 Picnic Pavilion at The Swain Boating Center
Usage Guidelines

The Swain Boating Center’s Class of 1981 Pavilion and docks are provided for The Citadel community to enjoy our beautiful waterfront. Due to social distancing restrictions, the pavilion is limited to 25 people. If you have a gathering or small event and wish to use the pavilion, contact Facilities & Engineering for availability and scheduling. F&E is developing on-line and on-site scheduling tools to show availability.

Note that the pavilion and waterfront are shared spaces and other individuals may desire to utilize the pavilion at the same time as your gathering, even without prior scheduling. This is allowable as long as social distancing guidelines can be maintained. Please share this space with others and be respectful by limiting loud noise, using only the areas needed to accommodate your activity, and cleaning up after each use.

  • Normal operating hours will be from 0800 - 2000 Sunday through Saturday.

  • The pavilion is for recreational use and is an "as-is" facility/area. Parties wishing to use the pavilion are responsible for:

    • Food/Catering (unless a college-sponsored event)

    • Additional tables/chairs (unless a college-sponsored event)

    • Clean-up - including cleaning of charcoal grills and trash removal (unless a college-sponsored event)

You may submit requests for catering through Ms. Shuan Sutton, Catering Manager for Flavours of Charleston Catering - The Citadel (843-953-6070).

  • Any use of the fireplace must be requested during scheduling of your gathering.

We hope that everyone will get a chance to take advantage of this beautiful location on campus! If you have any questions about use of the Class of 1981 Pavilion or docks, please contact Teresa (tlauterb@citadel.edu) or Jonathan (jlewelly@citadel.edu) in Facilities & Engineering at 953-5304.
